There are various ways to obtaining Canadian temporary residence or changing your status in Canada. In most cases, you must be outside Canada to apply for temporary residence; however, under some circumstances, you may be able to apply to change your status in Canada, for example from a student to a visitor.

Temporary Residence Services

Visitors

A temporary resident includes a visitor, student, worker and temporary resident permit holder wishing to enter Canada. Citizens of certain countries may be required to obtain a Temporary Resident Visa or an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to enter Canada.

Students and Workers

A study permit authorizes a foreign national to study at a designated financial institution in Canada, similarly, a work permit authorizes a foreign national to work in Canada.

Temporary Residence Permit

There are situations where a foreign national does not meet the requirement to come or stay in Canada. For individuals in this situation, who may have compelling reasons why they do not meet the requirements, we may suggest they obtain a Temporary Resident Permit to overcome the barrier they are facing of entering or remaining in Canada.
